Let me introduce myself. Hi, I’m Pippa and I live in Four Marks. I have been a member of the Quilters’ Guild for a while now and have been sewing since forever. I learnt to sew with Mum and of course at school and never really looked back.
Patchwork & Quilting have been my main sewing focus since late 1980s, after a visit to one of my Mum’s friend’s home in Andover – Barbara White. There was a Mariner’s Compass Quilt on view and I loved it. Around the same time (1992) I was planning a sailing adventure and I thought that the Mariner’s Compass would be a great reminder of the trip. After the voyage – Storm at Sea was a much better block to represent the trip! I’ve yet to make either!
I am a member of Colemore Quilters and decided to join this motley crew, as I had time on my hands. Recently I have become Region 3 Co-ordinator and I'm looking forward to the challenges the role brings.

Hello! I took up patchwork when my children were little. I loved fabric but I could never get any of my dressmaking attempts to fit... patchwork just had to lie flat! As the children went off to school, my friend and I attended the City and Guilds patchwork and quilting course in a prefab classroom at Berkshire College of Agriculture for two years, it was great, playgroup for adults! I then did my adult teaching certificate and started teaching patchwork for Surrey County Council. I do not know what my students learnt that first year, I learnt masses! The most useful piece of advice I was given was 'if your knees knock, sit down.'
Having lived in Wokingham for about thirty years, we moved three years ago to Froxfield, near Petersfield and I retired, having spent 25 very happy years teaching patchwork and quilting both for the local authority and some of my own classes.
I am a member of two house groups in Wokingham, and I jointly run the Petersfield Stitchers here. I am currently trying to finish all those 'Here is one I made earlier' teaching samples. I have a new garden to play with, which has no ground elder or bindweed to battle, and that makes a nice change.
I am married to Bill, and we have two children, both are married, and we have five grandchildren.

Hi, I was asked to write a short piece about myself, so here goes?I have sewn ever since I can remember. I was one of the children who always enjoyed making things, I would find scraps of fabric and make clothes for my dolls and teddies, which I would sew by hand, or later borrowed my mother?s sewing machine, an old Singer which had been fitted with an electric motor. At the age of 14 I was given a sewing machine as a birthday present and started making even more things from clothes, to bags, cushions, and curtains. At university I studied Clothing Technology with textiles, and went onto become a Designer & Pattern Cutter. While at work I didn't do a great deal of sewing at home because that was my day job. Since stopping work I have fallen back into love with sewing again and discovered quilting. I made my first quilt four years ago completely by chance, as a quilting shop opened in my local High Street and I thought that would be something I'd like to do. So I went in and asked they were extremely kind found me a pattern and all the fabric I needed even cutting some of the pieces for me, I made a lap quilt for my-sister-law?s new baby. Now I am completely hooked, I can?t believe I've learnt so many new techniques and being so inspired by all the other lovely quitters I?ve met in the last four years, and can't wait to continue my quilting journey.

I started my first piece of patchwork 40 years ago, but only really had more time several years later, when I gave up my career as a nurse tutor to follow my Army husband round the world.
A keen, though not very good golfer, my sewing usually takes a back seat during the summer. However, I love attending Festival of Quilts where I have volunteered as a Steward since I returned to the UK. Each year I catch up with friends and come home inspired, full of ideas and with more fabric for my stash. It will definitely outlive me!
There have been several comments in Zoom meetings about showing others our quilt/craft rooms and this resulted in a tidy up of my stash. I am now eagerly awaiting the Festival of Quilts as I have an empty shelf!

I live in Hampshire, and I have been quilting for about 6 years. I like to think of myself as a modern quilter. I have 2 cats Montgomery and Sidney, they are my constant companions. I started my journey accidentally really, I happened to be in a meeting when a colleague brought in a fabric Christmas tree. I asked if I could place an order. Absolutely not, was the reply, but I will teach you. Three machines later, and I too am hooked. I still work full time, but not for much longer, retirement is looming. I'm looking forward to finding speakers and traders for Region 3, and meeting you all!

Hi I’m Amelia and new to the Southern Star team. I’m looking forward to learning about our readers and events and exhibitions in our area.
Meanwhile here’s a little about me. I have always been passionate about sewing and making things with fabric, and made this my career firstly teaching Textiles and then with a successful Bridalwear business for 25 years. However, in retirement I have got a little more crafty and over lockdown I discovered patchwork and quilting.
When not running up the mileage on my sewing machine I can be found walking my lovely dogs or travelling. My husband and I share a love of seeing remote and wonderful places whenever we can, this often provides inspiration for my projects. I hope to see your projects and you at Regional Days and beyond, until then, happy stitching folks.
