Leaving A Gift In Your Will
From ensuring that future generations can learn and explore patchwork and quilting, to conserving, enhancing and presenting our Museum Collection for the benefit of future quilters, gifts in wills are used right at the heart of our work. Please consider leaving a legacy to help look after the craft you love.
Together, we can bring patchwork and quilting to a new audience and ensure our historic and contemporary quilt collection continues to inspire us all.
How your gift will help
Leaving a gift undirected means that we can use it where it is most needed. But we understand that you may wish to direct your donation.
We welcome directed gifts, giving you the peace of mind that your support will be used where you feel it is most needed. The following are examples of the way different types of donation have helped the work of our Guild.
Charitable Donation
This contemporary quilt by internationally renowned textile artist Pauline Burbidge, was purchased for The Quilters' Guild Museum Collection from a donation made by the Chatsworth Charitable Trust in memory of Eileen Lewis, of Sheffield.
Directed Donation
The Doris Debney Prize - Doris Debney worked as a nursery nurse and was a member of The Quilters' Guild. Children were important to her, and in honour of Doris, who died in June 2013, this prize was established by her family to leave a legacy to Young Quilters in her name.
The prize is usually awarded to winners of the YQ Challenge at the Guild's Conference & AGM. We thank Doris and her family for their support to Young Quilters and for giving them the opportunity to explore their sewing further with the prize money.
Gifting Quilts
This quilt is one of 21 historic pieces of excellent quality bequeathed to The Quilters' Guild Museum Collection by collector and Guild supporter Angela Brocklebank. It is a frame quilt constructed of printed cottons, with unusual Art Nouveau style printed central squares in yellow and green.

Advice
We would advise you to use a qualified solicitor to make your will. In this way, you ensure that your wishes are carried out in the way you would like them to be. You can leave a fixed amount or a percentage of your estate to The Guild. Legacies can be left in cash, property or shares to The Quilters' Guild of the British Isles, registered charity no. 1067361. If you are making your will in Scotland, The Quilters' Guild is registered as a charity in Scotland, reg. no. SC043174.
