A really pretty quilt with the same cotton fabric on both sides but in a different colourway. One side is mainly shades of pink on a cream backgound while the reverse has the same pink floral motifs but on a blue background. The quilting is an all over lined orange peel design and the edges are handsewn as is usual in a Welsh quilt.
The wadding is sheeps wool which was the most common filling in Wales. Many poorer households would glean the wool from the hedges to use in their quilts which were a necessity to keep warm.
This is quite a thick quilt so would have been difficult to quilt which accounts for the slightly haphazard stitching! However, the thickness does mean that the quilting design shows up really well even on the busy fabric.
