Beautiful North Country quilt with bold, well laid out quilting patterns including scissors and feathered wreaths set within de-lineated borders which make for a striking quilt.

The fabric used throughout is a pink Roman Sateen which was readily available from the local Co-Op in a great variety of colours. Quilters liked using this cotton fabric as the sheen showed up their stitching patterns to great effect.

The central design has four tulip like shapes with their stalks towards the centre. Surrounding these are four sets of feathered wreaths of the Page Bank design and within each pair of feathers are scissors and a six petalled flower. Set in between each wreath are detailed horseshoe patterns. This whole is surrounded by square diamonds with a large shell pattern topped with five of the six-petalled flowers in each corner of a double-lined oblong.

Next is a border of a simple double-lined twist with a small leaf spray in each corner. Following this is a wider border of large sixteen-petalled ?daisies? and the final border is again of a simple double-lined twist, slightly larger than the previous one. The corner motifs in this border seem to be a cross between the tulip and horseshoe pattern.

The quilt is finished with a machine-stitched butted edge as is usual in North Country quilts and the quilting has been done using a white thread with reasonably neat stitches.

Unfortunately, there is no provenance to this quilt apart from that it was purchased at a North Yorkshire Auction House.
