Meet the Neighbours
Beartown Patchwork & Quilters visit Malpas
Over the years, Beartown Patchwork & Quilters have visited and been visited by other local groups for Meet The Neighbours show and tell meetings. In June this year, a few members from Chester and District P’s and Q’s brought a huge amount of their wonderful quilts to mesmerize us. They really set the bar high!
In July, four Beartown members travelled to Malpas Fabric Arts in a loaded up car and a van full to the brim with quilts, hangings, bags and cushions. We had included some of our recent challenges, post cards themed by different countries and blocks made as a ruby challenge for our 40th birthday exhibition in 2024.
We had asked our members to bring in quilts, old and new and we were inundated, but far better than not having enough! It’s time consuming collecting and collating the quilts beforehand but it’s a fun way to get to know members from other groups and also to meet up with old friends. The notices and refreshments were dealt with first, leaving plenty of time for us to show off our quilts.
Beartown P’s and Q’s in Congleton have fortnightly meetings so it’s challenging for the committee when arranging the programme. We have Four Corner sessions with four different technique demonstrations, a variety of speakers, sewing and sales evenings, group challenges and workshops.
As a suggestion, maybe the various groups in Region 13 can submit their programmes to the website so that other groups can share ideas and names of local speakers. Beartown print theirs three times a year and Sandbach Sew & Sews just once a year in January as they have monthly meetings. What do other groups think?

Four of us made our return visit to this group on the 17th September and had a lovely time showing them some of our members work. It is so lovely to meet fellow quilters in different groups as it sparks ideas - and we are always on the lookout for those!

That was a visitor comment heard during Quilt Fest North at Astley Hall in Chorley. We saw fantastic attendance at Quilt Fest North, which this year focussed on modern, contemporary and art quilts. We had plenty of talent on show with award winning work, and it was a celebration of patchwork and quilting in the broadest sense of the art and craft. To educate and inspire are key aims for The Quilters’ Guild, and Region 13 certainly did this.
