Region 6 - Proud to present - Collaborative Working!

reg-six-banner

Region 6 Banner

The Region Six banner was a group project made by members of the Region 6 Committee. The design was inspired by the county shields of Oxfordshire and Berkshire. The ox represents Oxfordshire, but the Berkshire shield had a horse on it and we changed it to a dog (Barkshire), The dog's collar with the Tudor rose and the triangles at the bottom of the banner represent the crown for Royal Berkshire and the wobble underneath is the Thames. The crown at the centre top is made including the Quilters' Guild symbol (we are the queens of quilting after all!) and the VI symbol underneath is for Region Six as is the quilt in the centre with the six blocks. The threads, scissors and pin cushion are the tools of our trade. Finally the banner at the top reads "Cave Culcitam" which is Latin and translates as "Beware of the Quilt!".

The makers names are:

Maureen Blake, Heather Edwards, Melyn Robinson, Mary Alcock, Janet Scotton, Christine Thomas, Pam Edwards, Diane Dyche, Barbara Abrahamian

Members were challenged to use only fabric already in their possession to design and make a modern block as part of our interpretation of the Queen's Green Canopy. Wadding is curtain interlining surplus to requirements and the backing is an old sheet. Recycling in action!

A wall-hanging made by Maidenhead Quilters following a request from Cookham Festival Committee. The painting of Stanley Spencer were used as the theme and seven pictures which could be interpreted in fabric were chosen. A colour palette was agreed to reflect that used by Spencer. The wall-hanging was subsequently purchased from Maidenhead Quilters by the Stanley Spencer Gallery who display the hanging on chosen occasions.

red-house-reg6

Region 6 - Red House inspired quilt

Inspired by the Red House quilt, a part of the Guild Collection, member Julia Shay organised quilters across Region 6 to make applique blocks based on the blocks in this antique quilt. The blocks were then assembled into a quilt, and hand quilted by members who passed the quilt around between groups so that as many quilters as possible could take part. The finished quilt was raffled in aid of the Guild's Forty Years fund.
