Stitching, cake and flowers in great company, what better way to spend a Saturday! Yvette led our Sashiko workshop helping us to develop Hitomezashi patterns on a grid using traditional Sashiko thread and fabric. The patterns started with a simple running stitch which really helped to keep the stitch length even.
In the afternoon we used chalk to transfer flower motif designs onto the fabric and then had the challenge of setting an even stitch length around curves. Yvette shared information about the origins of Sashiko, good suppliers and many of her beautiful Sashiko makes.
We had a good supply of coffee and cake all day and over lunch visited the local church which had an amazing show of snake’s head and white fritillary, and cowslips, in the churchyard.
I think everyone went away ready to pursue a(nother) new technique.

Lots of concentration and stitching!
