Sapphire Street: A Group Quilt Project

We all know that this year marks the 45th anniversary of The Quilters' Guild. There have been celebrations throughout the year, and some wonderful regional projects both in the works or finished already. We have, quite rightly, been proud of this monumental milestone. Back in 1979, the very first quilt we acquired for The Collection was a wonderful house quilt. It was created by members and depicted the areas and the houses where they lived.

Wouldn't it be fabulous to create a new version? Showing how we have grown and the changes in where we live since 1979.

Here is the idea for The Sapphire Street quilt project.

1. Each Region and Special Interest Group can make up to 15 6" (plus seam allowance) blocks. They can also be joined together to make larger blocks or a much bigger panel of up to 15 blocks. Pieced or appliqué, without embellishments (as the quilt will be longarm quilted). As an example - a 12" (plus seam allowance) block would use 4 blocks from your quota, a 12" x 6" would be 2 blocks and so on.

2. If you think your region is likely to need to make a few more blocks, just let me know by emailing [email protected] - I'm sure we can sort something out!

3. Blocks need to be at HQ in York by the end of May 2025, and the finished quilt will be at FoQ next year (and then available for any Region to borrow, it is our quilt, to celebrate us and would be a lovely way to represent The Guild as a whole at a regional day, or at your membership table at a local exhibition). If you could get all your blocks together from each region and send them up at once, that would be preferable but if you want to send in your blocks individually please just make sure you include details of who made the block/s and which region (safety pin a little note on to each block, so I don't lose track)

4. Each region's blocks will be grouped together, in as close to the map layout we have as possible. (But still quilt shaped, not map shaped!).
