Guild News - 2nd September 2026

A gift in your Will can help safeguard the history, creativity and craft of quilting for generations to come.

Quilting is about more than fabric and thread. It connects us to the people who made quilts before us, the communities that grew around them and the stories stitched into every piece.

At The Quilters’ Guild, we are passionate about preserving that heritage while supporting the quilters and makers of today – and tomorrow. One way you can help us continue this work is by leaving a gift to The Guild in your Will.

Your legacy can make a lasting difference

The Quilters’ Guild collection is home to a remarkable record of British quilting. From historic textiles to modern masterpieces, these quilts and textiles help us understand how quilting has evolved and the people and communities behind it. But preserving this heritage takes more than simply collecting quilts. We need to care for them, conserve them, research them and make them accessible so that future generations can discover, study and enjoy them.

Your support can help us:

* Enrich our Collection by acquiring significant objects that might otherwise be lost or leave the UK.

* Enhance knowledge and understanding of British patchwork and quilting through our bursary and Awards schemes, supporting emerging textile artists and graduate MA students.

* Support social networks and exhibitions, connecting members and supporters and providing opportunities to learn, create and share.

* Conserve our Collection, helping to care for fragile textiles and preserve them for generations to come.

* Develop our Contemporary Collection, ensuring that important new textile work is documented and celebrated.

* Provide free resources, including patterns for sale through Quiltworks and The Quilters’ Guild Library, helping people access the knowledge they need to study and enjoy quilting and textile history.

Together, these things help ensure that quilting remains a living, evolving tradition – not simply something remembered from the past.

Leaving a gift in your Will

A legacy gift can be a way of making a meaningful contribution to something you care about, long after your other commitments have been settled.

There are different ways to leave a gift. You might choose to leave a specific amount, a particular item or a share of your estate. Whatever form your gift takes, we are sincerely grateful for the opportunity to continue the work of The Quilters’ Guild with your support.

If you are considering leaving a gift to The Guild, we would be very happy to have a confidential conversation with you about your wishes and how your legacy could support our future work.

A Gift in Memory

A legacy does not always have to be about your own story.

Perhaps you have a family member or friend who loved to quilt and you would like to remember them through a gift. A donation in their memory can be a particularly meaningful way to honour their love of textiles while helping encourage the next generation of quilters.

If you would like to discuss a Memorial Gift, please get in touch with us at [email protected]

Leave a Quilt to The Guild

You may also be considering leaving a quilt or other textile to The Quilters’ Guild rather than a financial gift.

Our Collection is carefully documented, stored, displayed and conserved, and we take our responsibility to care for these objects seriously. If you are thinking about leaving a quilt to The Guild, please contact us in advance so that we can discuss your wishes and make sure we have the information we need to consider your gift appropriately.

Please don't send a quilt without contacting us first.

Your Legacy, Their Future

Every quilt has a story. By supporting The Quilters’ Guild, you can help make sure those stories – and the skills, knowledge and creativity behind them – continue to be discovered by future generations.

Whether you choose to leave a gift in your Will, make a donation in memory of someone special or leave a quilt to The Guild, your generosity can help protect our quilting heritage and support its future.
