Meet a Member ? Kate Percival

Get to know The Guild better by meeting our talented members! We have interesting and inspiring members all over the country doing amazing sewing and we want you to be able to share their work.

Editors Note: Since this article went to press, Kate sadly lost her fight against her illness. She will be sorely missed by members and staff alike. We have decided to retain the interview in it?s original form as a dedication to her wonderful spirit.

This week we invite you to join with us in giving a special welcome to Guild member Kate Percival. Kate has been a member of The Guild for many years and has contributed significantly to so many aspects of the Guild?s life, the development of the Modern Group, the fabulous 2017 Festival of Quilts Cottonopolis exhibition, and most of all it?s sense of enthusiasm and fun!

Kate has been battling a terminal illness with indomitable spirit and yet continues to inspire and encourage her fellow quilters by giving away specially curated bundles of her stash, asking only that they make something beautiful. We?re calling them Kate Quilts. Please join us in meeting, and greeting, our inspiring, creative and kind Guild member, Kate.

I?m giving away my stash and keeping only what I might finish in the time I have left. Mostly hand stitching, as this is what I love the most. I?m hoping to get a 1718 Coverlet version completed and a quilt for the Guild Anniversary Gallery at FOQ 2019. I?m also working on some sketches for paintings based on the Sidmouth Quilt.

I make quilts for fun. My ?favourite? was the first time I had the courage to use felts and wools and embroidery; I have not looked back.

We are asking Members to tell us a bit about their sewing life using five simple questions. At the end of the interview each member suggests another to interview. This way we hope to bring you a wide range of makers from all corners of The Guild over the next weeks and months.
