"The quilt is based on my own experience of having an unwanted rodent guest continuously breaking into my student room throughout the first Covid-19 lockdown. I have always admired a quilt maker?s ability to record and symbolically narrate stories, and through my own design I hope to have constructed a piece which alerts the viewer to a mouse?s presence using amplifying frames and borders."

Madeline intends to use the prize money to access wholecloth quilting classes, so that she may begin to create silk quilts using silk painting, print and applique, entirely by hand.
