"Beyond the Horizon" is the latest Suitcase Collection and is currently available For Hire.

The exhibits have been contributed by CT members from first-timers to well-known professional quilters. All quilts were generously and freely offered to help raise income for CT.

Contemporary Textiles (was Contemporary Quilt) members certainly love a challenge. Faced with the theme for the latest Suitcase Collection, many were stumped at first, but persevered and the end result is unique quilts.

'Beyond the Horizon' has been interpreted in different ways. Perhaps it was anew-to-them technique or design approach, including unusual material or the subject matter reflected the different-ness. A brave few anticipate that their quilts will return to them, after travelling for 3 years, in a different state due to the nature of the materials used.

Included in the suitcase are information sheets for each quilt, giving its design inspiration as well as the media and techniques that have been used. The quilts are enriched by their background stories.

The Suitcase Collection can be hired by any interested group, be it a WI group or an embroidery/textile/craft type group. It does not necessarily need to be a quilting orientated group. By hiring the suitcase collection, groups are able to have their own personal exhibition and see at first hand the richness and detail of work within CQ. The basic hire fee of £85 helps to raise much needed funds for CQ after expenses and transport costs have been covered.

The quilts, each sized A3, travel to and from the hirer in a box. The box is delivered to your door by a courier and collected the same way, for return to the suitcase co-ordinator, Sarah Rayfield, before its onward journey to the next hirer.
