Welcome to Region 9

Alison Thomas

Alison Thomas our new co-ordinator.

Hallo everyone - I am Alison Thomas and I have just taken over from Chris Powell as co-ordinator for Region 9.

Firstly I'd like to say a big thank you to Chris for her many years of work supporting quilting in Region 9 and for all her hard work as co-ordinator for the last seven years.

Before I talk about plans for our region I had better tell you a little about my quilting background. I started making patchwork as a teenager and like most quilters my first efforts were made of hexagons over papers. I joined my local quilt group in West Sussex when my children were young but I quickly realised I needed to take some lessons. I joined the Guild and spent quite a few years in the 90s as treasurer and YQ rep for Region 2.

My husband Mike and I moved to Norfolk in 2010, set up a B&B and subsequently offering quilting retreats. We closed the B&B and retreats three years ago to care for an elderly relative. Now I am teaching Mike and we share our studio to make quilts.

It was just last year when I retired that I had time to get involved with the Guild and find out what I was missing out on.

I am interested in finding out what you think the region should offer. There are lots of quilt groups spread across both counties giving most people the opportunity to sew with local quilters. The Guild offers lots of different things including Special Interest Groups, the Loft and the January Retreat.

Between what you can access locally and what's on offer nationally there is the regional space. What should we fill it with? Let me know your ideas by emailing [email protected]

Tell us your news

We are always keen to have photographs and information about your group for the website news and events pages. Exhibitions, charity fundraising activities, workshops in fact anything quilting that is open to or will be of interest to quilters across the region.

We have a new Facebook group that is open to Guild members and quilting friends. Do join us and share you makes and quilting news.
