Cornwall Local Groups

Acorn Quilters

Acorn Quilters aim is to provide an inspiring and stimulating quilting environment by encouraging members to expand their knowledge and skills. The group meet fortnightly. The meetings are a mix of member driven workshops, self driven quilting projects, knowledge sharing and trouble shooting as well as inviting the occasional visiting tutor to teach us new skills.
Quilting together as a group creates a community within our local community. Members support each other in many ways and we enjoy time spent together in our love of all things quilting.

St Wenn Quilters

We are an active group of ladies of mature years who seek to maintain and expand our knowledge and skills in patchwork and quilting. This helps to keep our brains active and fingers dextrous.

By joining together and being creative our aim is to keep our mental, physical and social well-being at good functioning levels whilst enjoying a day of sewing, chat and fun away from everyday cares.

Meet Details

The group meet twice monthly. One day is centred on a taught programme and the second to continue the project started or 'do your own thing.' We either use experienced members of the group or bring in external tutors for specific topics. This last year they have brought us two sessions of free-motion quilting - at beginners or refresher level and then making a Christmas Wreath. We've enjoyed an excellent day on Foundation Piecing and another on English Paper piecing. A quieter day was on Slow stitching and we will extend that to Kantha later in the year.
Most of us are starting a sampler quilt to embrace new blocks; several using the current Liberty fabrics
We have an annual Challenge with gift vouchers from our local Quilting Shop for the winner, 2nd and 3rd places as judged by the whole group. This last year it was a cushion cover with a Hallowe'en or Autumn theme - a fantastic variety was on display.
We have an annual celebratory lunch with our AGM in March with a raffle.
We adopt a Charity each year and donated £612 to Cornwall Air Ambulance. In 2025 it will be the Cinnamon trust. We sell redundant fabrics from our 'stashes' to each other so that they don't become too embarrassing or make things for sale.
We are organised by a small planning team - the Flying Geese.
