"I like this quilt but is it any good?" The Art and Responsibility of Judging by Merrill Tanton

"I like this quilt but is it any good?" The Art and Responsibility of Judging by Merrill Tanton

Miniature Quilt Group

Online

Merrill Tanton’s talk includes a slide show of winning quilts linked to the judging used at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. Seeing the images along with the judging form will help to de-mystify the quilt judging processes used at the largest open competition show in Europe. Some of the information will apply to other shows around the UK, too. There are no ‘Quilt Police’ here! There are accredited Judges who give positive critique about the work they see and often give advice for improving.
Merrill encourages others to share their passion for making by entering their work into shows and exhibitions. We spend a lot of time having fun making a piece and sharing it is the icing on the cake. Whether work is judged or not, without your work there would be no show and we all love to see and admire the work of others. That’s where we get our inspiration from.
You may see some of Merrill’s work too, so you can be the judge!
