Originally we?d planned to hold spring 2020?s Powys Area Day at Jubilee Hall in Llanelwedd. Storm Dennis put paid to that and we decamped a few miles down the road in Garth.
Lis Binns came to talk to us about Wonderfil Threads. We came away knowing all about different thread weights, mercerised threads, long and short staples, straight wound and cross wound threads. We learned that thread that breaks when you pull it won?t cut into fabric. This is most Wonderfil thread as it is cottonized. Wonderfil gives a 10% discount to guild members, the code is on the website. Lis will order threads for you if you know what you want...www.wonderfil.co.uk, just drop Lis an email, [email protected] to get free postage.
Anne showed us some of the quilts, bags and cushion covers that had been made since the last time we met in Powys using a lady from Caersws?s ufos. The plan is to raffle and sell them to raise funds for the Guild - watch this space!
The show and tell of work from members was of the usual high standard as can be seen in the pictures.
We had so much cake that we had to start eating it at lunch time!
After lunch Lynn Kinsey spoke to us. Born in Zimbabwe and having travelled quite extensively Lynn now lives in Llandrindod Wells. Originally an embroidery teacher Lynn began quilting in 2010. She showed us both slides and quilts. Mainly pictorial in style, Lynn?s work is excellent and she has won prizes at quilt shows for her work. Lynn is hoping to begin teaching more regularly so look her up and get her along to your group.
More cake was followed by the raffle. Rumour has it that it was fixed as every committee member present won a prize. Now you know how to win something...join the committee, they?re always on the lookout for new blood! Brilliant day Anne, enjoyed by all. Thank you for organising. Gill
