It was a bright, sunny Saturday when we set off for an area day at Little Mill Village Hall, the drive was very pleasant through some very pretty countryside. The hall was quickly set up with plenty of willing helpers to arrange the tables and chairs. During the morning we were treated to three demonstrations, Elaine Moore showed us how to make eco friendly, sustainable Christmas hats which were very festive. Gill Clark demonstrated an easy modern block and Jackie Pugh showed another method of Quilt as You Go.
The fabric trader was White Gecko who had a beautiful selection of fabrics and notions at excellent prices.
We were kept very entertained and exercised our brains with a fun quiz which Carol Edwards had supplied. It caused a lot of hilarity and was nice to see people co-operating to guess the answers.
The morning ended with a very tasty ploughman?s lunch beautifully prepared and served by Pat Cleary, Stephanie Winterfeld and Liz Mace with very tasty puddings to follow if you wished.
There was an opportunity for Show and Tell and it was interesting to see a selection of different quilts from members of different groups.
After lunch we were treated to an excellent talk by Eleanor Marsden who showed an amazing selection of quilts based on the Fibonacci sequence. Eleanor was a very entertaining and knowledgeable speaker, and her quilts were stunning. She talked about her journey in quilting and how she came to base her quilts on the mathematical sequence. Her quilts were striking and very colourful and she was very happy to answer questions and to allow us to examine and photograph her work.
All in all it was a very enjoyable day and people really liked, and were inspired by, the beautiful quilts we had seen.
Special thanks to Carol Edwards for arranging this excellent Area Day, her last one as Newport and Eastern Valleys Rep.
