Event Day with Alex Kingswell

Event Day with Alex Kingswell

Region 10

In Person

Come and join us for a super, 'sewcial" day out with Alex Kingswell as our Guest Speaker at Epperstone Village Hall on Saturday 13th March 2027. Alex will be bringing some of her quilt pieces from her “Seeking the Light” exhibition which has been on display in cathedrals around the country, and talking to us about the pieces.

Alex is a textile artist whose work is often described as a love affair with colour. After earning a degree in communications design and working as a graphic designer, she transitioned to fine art, where she discovered the freedom to express her ideas through textile and colour. Her early work with mathematicians sparked a lasting fascination with the relationship between number, proportion, and beauty in the natural world - an influence that continues to shape her artistic approach, along with her love of stained glass.

In her work, Alex is constantly searching for luminosity, exploring ways to create or suggest light within each piece. Through vibrant colour and thoughtful design, her goal is to offer viewers a joyful and uplifting visual experience that invites contemplation and curiosity.

Her work has received international recognition, with three pieces acquired by the. International Quilt Museum in Nebraska for their permanent Contemporary Textile Art Collection. She has presented solo exhibitions at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham and in several historic venues and cathedrals across England, including Coventry, Lichfield, Leicester, Sheffield and Ely.

There will be a morning sewing activity, so please bring your hand sewing kit, items for show and tell if you have some, a mug and packed lunch. Some cash would also be handy as will have our usual Bring and Buy Stall, raffle and a trader. Our trader on this occasion is Quorn Country Crafts.
