Online Retreat

The Guild’s online retreat for members offers an opportunity to take part in a cornucopia of talks, sew-a-longs and mini workshops. When the weather outside is gloomy then this is the place to go – find your special spot where it’s warm and comfortable, ensure life’s necessities are at hand and relax.With just one log in you can come and go as suits your day knowing that sessions are recorded and you can catch up later. Even if you are busy that weekend you can still enjoy the ‘rewind’ recordings at your leisure over the next four weeks. Just be sure you have bought your ticket in advance.

2027 will be our fourth retreat and we have a wide range of speakers already lined up with some well known faces and some new speakers you may not yet have heard. We have a broad range of topics so that there is something for everyone – some topics will be familiar and some will be new to you but we hope that everyone will go away inspired with an idea or a technique to explore in their own way.

Amongst the many speaker we will of course be hearing from Heather udon our curator and she is sure to have some gems to share with us. Katherine Gough will be talking about Abertridwr quilts created by her grandmother and friends.

Jennie Rayment will be guiding us through making hexie boxes and we will take a look at the many ways to create HST. Add to that FPP and perfect points plus an introduction to Manx quilting.

Wadding, labels and hanging sleeves tend to come towards the end of our projects once the thrill of creating a stunning top has faded. Quilt as desired the pattern says but choice of wadding can change a project before the quilting begins. If you plan to hang you project at home or in an exhibition wadding choice can affect the end result as can a well placed hanging sleeve. And no quit should be without a label! So lots to share to turn that top into a masterpiece!

And so much more to drive away those January blues.

 The bento box blocks featured at the top of this page are the start of a block drive in support of Q4CL.  Lots of members already make blocks and quilts for this great initiative so we hope you will join us in creating a block or two over the weekend.  Watch out for more information about this in the autumn.
