Welcome to Region 5
Hello Everyone
Well I don`t know what happened to the summer although the gardener`s will be pleased to have had some rain but perhaps we`ve had enough to be going on with.
I hope that you managed to get to the Festival of Quilts. I went with five friends and was lucky enough to stay for three days and had a really good time. We all came back suffering from quilt overload but there was so much to see and do and people to talk too. We also came back with lots of bulging bags. The standard of the quilts seems to be higher every year and there were definitely some breath taking ones on show. The winner of the miniature category was outstanding and had everyone marvelling at the perfect, tiniest points.
There are still places for the Autumn Regional Day on September 18th at the Armstrong Hall, Thornbury. Our speakers are Jenny Lester and Ann Rippin. Jenny won the `Best Use of Colour` category at Quilts UK in May. Having seen the quilt both at Quilts UK and in the flesh, as it were, I can fully understand. Jenny`s friend Myra will be with her and really it should be billed as A Talk by Jenny and Myra. Ann Rippin makes some lovely quilts relating to big companies. This might sound rather dry but the quilts prove otherwise. We also have Bags, Bags, Bags. Kath, Sheila and I all accepted the Trustees Task Force Challenge and bought fabric to make bags for sale. The proceeds all go towards Guild funds. There will also be The Guild Sales Table, Raffle, traders and not forgetting morning coffee and afternoon tea with home made cake. Tickets - Guild members £8 and non members £15 - and details from Sheila Butler on 01454 618143 or sheilalg@hotmail.com. Do come and join us and have a good quilty day.
If you have a Young Quilters or a young person who would like to take up quilting there is a Young Quilters` Workshop in October. Details from Judith Plevin on 01666 822928 or jeplevin@hotmail.com.
There will be another Sampler Day on November 13th but places for this are limited. To avoid disappointment contact Jean Grimshaw at jeangrimshaw@blueyonder.co.uk.
Happy stitching,
Gwyneth
