Welcome from the Regional Co-ordinator
Hello everyone
Welcome to the Region 15E web pages. Region 15E covers the Durham, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear areas in the North East of England and offers a programme of workshops and regional days throughout the year, with preferential rates for members of The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles. Non-members are welcome too, of course, and further information about our activities can be found on the web pages here or by contacting a member of the Committee.
We have a varied programme of workshops over the coming months. If you haven’t been to a workshop before, please get in touch if you need help travelling to the venue or are a little apprehensive about coming on your own. We are always happy to help where possible and keen to welcome new people to our activities.
As well as workshops we hold two Regional Days per year, in March and October. Our next Regional Day is on Saturday 9 October 2010 at Stannington Village Hall, Stannington, Northumberland. Tina Gravatt and Janet McCallum are our speakers for the day. We will also have a local trader, The Guild sales table and a raffle.
Tina will deliver a workshop on Sunday 10 October. See the Regional Events page for details of this and other forthcoming workshops.
We are currently working with Beamish Open Air Museum, County Durham, and staged an exhibition in June, entitled 'Quilt Stories Old and New' and plans are starting to get underway for our next exhibition at Belsay Hall in Northumberland in May 2011. We are looking for volunteers to help organise and/or steward events, so please get in touch if you would like to give a few hours of your time.
We also have regular Young Quilter workshops at Beamish Museum and at the Shipley Art Gallery in Gateshead.
Region 15E activities, plus our quarterly newsletter, the Northumbria Star, are organised by a committee of 10 people who give their time voluntarily to promote the craft of patchwork and quilting. We provide support and opportunities for beginners through to experienced quilters, to sew, learn new techniques, enter competitions, find out about quilting events and exhibitions and make new friends.
We are currently looking for Area Representatives for South Tyneside, North and South Northumberland areas to join the committee.
If you would like to know more about Region 15E, or would like to get more involved with our programme of events, please contact me or your local committee representative – details are on the Regional Contacts page.
I look forward to seeing you at one of our events.
Gillian
