Welcome To The Quilters' Guild of The British Isles
Quilt Museum and Gallery, St Anthony's Hall, York
The Quilt Museum and Gallery has opened its doors to the public!
The first exhibition “Journey from Bed to Wall” is stunning. This is everything every Quilter could want – a superb venue with quilts you’ve never seen before as well as those that you may have seen from contemporary makers.
The building itself, a medieval hall which has been upgraded, will take your breath away. There are still extensive renovation works being done in the grounds and a promise of a café/restaurant to come in the near future.
It will be worth a trip so please do come.
Di Goodison, President, QGBI

The Quilters' Guild 30th Anniversary Exhibition
“Pearls, Pearls, Pearls”
2009 will be another year with a big event for the Quilters’ Guild as we will be thirty years old. To celebrate this we are having a National Exhibition, our first, in our very own Museum and Gallery. We welcome work from current members of the Guild based on the theme, because it is thirty years, pearls. We hope many of you will accept the challenge and enter into the spirit of honouring our birthday.

All the Registration Forms for the Button-Up Quilt have been received and judging from the emails and phone calls we have been receiving groups are applying their finishing touches to their work. The final number of registrations was 259, so thank you all for participating. We have many registrations from our fellow EQA members in Europe and some from even further afield so there should be a wonderful varied display at the Festival of Quilts in 2008.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DATES FOR THE FESTIVAL OF QUILTS ARE 14TH -17TH AUGUST 2008, NOT AS GIVEN IN THE BUTTON-UP QUILT INFORMATION.
The Guild and more specifically the Button-Up Quilt Team would like to say a big thank you to all the groups who contributed to the St Anthony’s Project; you have been very generous. The final figure for donation is £806.50, a tremendous response to the appeal.
We hope you all enjoy making your quilts and remember that they need to be received at the collection point between 1st April and 1st May 2008.

About The Quilters' Guild
There are few crafts that are more versatile and satisfying than quiltmaking. It combines so many techniques and procedures that it inspires a quilter to tackle one project after another.
Whether it is a simple quilt, or a work of art that has been designed by the maker, a tremendous sense of satisfaction is felt when it is completed. With so many variations of patchwork, quilting and appliqué, a quilter is never bored but can go on from strength to strength creating more and more beautiful quilts.International
Quilt Guilds are flourishing throughout Europe, North America, Japan and Australia. Together with magazines, exhibitions and symposiums, they all provide vital contact and a source of information for quilters.
Preserving Our Heritage
In 1990 The Guild embarked on the `British Heritage Quilt Project` to document items of patchwork and quilting dated prior to 1960, resulting in the publication of `Quilt Treasures` in 1995. June 2001 saw the opening of `The Resource Centre` to house the Heritage Quilt Collection and the library. Later in the year the collection was awarded full museum status.
In 2002, The Resource Centre was awarded a £50,000 Heritage Lottery grant to improve storage, provide better computer access to data and employ a part-time outreach worker.Regional Activities
The Quilters' Guild is divided into regions throughout the UK and each region has regional days and area days, several times a year, with speakers, competitions and events that are supported by local traders. Each region has a newsletter that advises members of local happenings and items from quilting groups. Most of these are financially supported through advertisements from traders, which are connected to the craft. Our Journal - The Quilter
A quarterly Journal, The Quilter is despatched to all members and through its pages the Editor aims to keep them informed of Guild events, information in the quilting world, ideas, quilts, thoughts, tips and designs. A twice-yearly supplement, Textile Perspectives is included in The Quilter and aims to broaden the area of interest from quilts to textiles in general.
As a serious journal, the Textile Perspectives attracts professional writers on textiles from both the UK and overseas who contribute articles on a wide range of subjects. Copies of the Textile Perspectives are sent to galleries, museums, craft associations, art schools and university departments. Circulation to such prestigious bodies helps to raise the profile of The Guild and quiltmaking in general in the wider art and academic world.
